Grain prices down for the week Prices paid for grain at the Ellsworth Co-op at the end of the business day Monday, Nov. 27, were:
Wheat, bu. — $5.40, down 51 cents from Nov. 13 Milo, bu. — $4.75, down 22 cents Soybeans, bu. — $12.65, down 52 cents Corn, bu. — $4.60, down 22 cents The co-op has locations in Ellsworth, Black Wolf, Farhman, Hitschmann, Holyrood and Kanopolis.
Wilson considers maintenance bids WILSON — At the Nov. 20 Wilson City Council meeting, a series of bids from Jared Steinle were presented for consideration regarding regular servicing of Wilson Fire Department fire trucks. The bids, submitted by council member Jessica Loveland, ranged from $114.08 to $718.93, depending on the truck. The service involved changing oil, changing the oil filter, replacing the air filter and checking fluids. No decision was made, however, Mayor Dan Taylor said it was something that was necessary.
In other business:
• Taylor noted a resolution has been approved and a deadline of Dec. 23 set for the owner of 2309 Ave. D to bring the inoperable vehicle on the property back into compliance with city ordinances. He noted the city can begin cleanup of the property the day after that if no corrective action is taken by the property owner.
• Approval was given to use the city credit card to purchase two boxes of envelopes at 500 envelopes each (one regular and one with windows) from the U.S. Postal Service for $817.50.
• The 2023 city audit by Gudenkauf and Malone, Russell, at a cost of $7,500, was approved.
• City Superintendent Joe Soukup said the city crew burned the limb pile and will start putting up Christmas decorations.
The next meeting of the Wilson City Council is at 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 4, at city hall.
EJSHS Scholars Bowl success
LYONS — On Nov. 14, the Ellsworth Jr./Sr. High School varsity Scholar’s Bowl team competed at the Lyons varsity tournament. With a 5-0 record in pool play, EJSHS went on to play in the bracket finals play, qualifying for the championship match. The team lost their only game of the night, taking second place to Buhler High School. Members of the team were Andrew Hipp, Aidan Johnson, Vincent Stambaugh and Ty Sunderland.
