Candidates file for local seats
In each city in Ellsworth County, the race for mayor will be contested.
Ellsworth, Wilson and Kanopolis all have two candidates vying for the mayor’s seat. The deadline to file for office was noon June 2.
“It’s more likely to have more than one candidate when the current elected official is not running,” Ellsworth County Election Officer Shelly Vopat said.
The mayor in each city is not seeking reelection, so the seat is considered open.
In each municipality, the mayor is a nonvoting member of the city council.
In addition to the mayor’s seat, all municipalities have seats up for election for city council members. Additionally, the local school boards and Midway Extension District also have candidates up for election Nov. 4.
