County approves closing portion of 18th Road

By
Alan Rusch Ellsworth County I-r

At the request of landowner Evan Warta, and after a public hearing, the Ellsworth County Commission approved Resolution 2024-R-09 at Monday’s commission meeting.

The resolution closes a one-mile stretch on 18th Road between Avenue I and Avenue H.

Ellsworth Fire Chief Ralph Doubrava said he had no problems with the road closure regarding firefighter access.

That stretch of the road will now revert back to ownership of Warta, who owns the land on both sides of the road.

In other business:

• Approval was given to a motion to take $1,870.86 from the county computer tech fund to cover the shortage from the LEPC fund to complete the computer purchases for the county appraiser’s office.

• While discussing questions the commissioners had regarding the disaster relief process for the state property evaluation division, County Attorney Paul J. Kasper noted state statute requires the county to determine on an individual basis whether a property owner who applies for tax relief after a major disaster strikes and destroys their home or building(s) will be granted that relief.

• County Road and Bridge Department Supervisor Bret Dunlap gave an update on projects.

• County EMS Director Nathan Florian said he received the three new Stryker stair chairs. He wants to keep one of the old ones he has, but would like to sell the other two.

Commissioners granted that request.

• Florian said he recently hired one part-time tech and one fulltime tech. Now the department is fully-staffed.

• Approval was given to County Noxious Weed Department Supervisor Teresa Shute to purchase a Comfort Air window air conditioner for $850 from City Plumbing, Ellsworth. Funds for the purchase will be taken from the Noxious Weed Capital Outlay Fund.

• Approval was given to Kasper to purchase a Lenovo computer from LockIT Technology for the county attorney’s office. The $1,319 for the computer will be taken from the county courthouse computer fund.

The next meeting of the Ellsworth County Commission will be at 9 a.m. Monday, Dec. 23, at the county courthouse.
