• No action was taken after a 10-minute executive session with County Attorney Paul J. Kasper to discuss matters pertaining to attorney/client privilege (statutory questions).
• During a discussion of the county emergency management job, commissioners gathered the thoughts of Sheriff Murray Marston, County EMS Director Nathan Florian and County Health Department Administrator Kerianne Ehrlich regarding the working relationship with the current format of a part-time emergency management director and whether Ellsworth County could handle a full-time emergency manager position.
Commission Chairman Greg Bender noted Russell County has decided to not renew the contract with Ellsworth County to share a part-time emergency management director.
Marston described having one person, as the county has right now, with the required knowledge base is invaluable.
“I don’t think it would be a problem filling that position full-time,” he said.
Ehrlich noted the resources and knowledge that person brings to the county are astronomical.
“We get a lot of resources from that position,” she said.
Florian said if the person had more time, the county’s preparedness would be increased that much more.
Bender said the commissioners are looking at how to expand the emergency management director’s job.
• The commissioners signed a renewal agreement between Ellsworth County and Saline County for a WIC dietician who is based in Saline County and works 16 hours a month in Ellsworth County.
The next meeting of the Ellsworth County Commission will be at 9 a.m. Monday, May 20, at the county courthouse.
