County discusses bridges, security protocols
At Monday’s meeting of the Ellsworth County Commission, no action was taken after a 15-minute executive session with EMS Director Nathan Florian to discuss nonelected personnel (performance).
In other business:
• Shelly Soukup, Democrat, and Kari Maul, Republican, were appointed to be present for the destruction of expired ballots from the 2021 primary and general elections.
From Nov. 20:
• A simple question of who does what was answered by Ellsworth County Commissioners during their Nov. 20 meeting.
The question involved who, the county or the City of Ellsworth, maintains the bridges going to residences on West Douglas Avenue.
County Road and Bridge Superintendent Dale Houston said since the county maintains the road since it is a county road, the county is responsible for maintaining the bridges going into the residences. He noted, however, there is no paperwork assigning responsibility, just a handshake kind of deal through the years.
Several of the planks on the bridges are rotting and Houston said he is OK with taking care of the repairs.
In other business:
• A department head meeting was conducted to discuss security protocols at the county courthouse. Commissioners decided to discuss the matter with INA Alert, Inc., Ellinwood, the contractor who installed security equipment on the courthouse doors. The department heads will be at the meeting to ask questions.
• EMS Director Nathan Florian said his department received two free ventilators from the state. The department also received safety restraints to use with children lying on cots in ambulances.
• No action was taken after a 15-minute executive session with Sheriff Murray Marston to discuss non-elected personnel (back wages).
The next meeting of the Ellsworth County Commissioners will be Monday, Dec. 4, at the county courthouse.
