EJSHS students earn art awards
Art students from Ellsworth Jr./Sr. High School participated in two art shows in recent weeks.
The NCAA league art festival was April 24 at Sacred Heart High School, Salina. After setting up their artwork, students were able to participate in several workshops which included Japanese ink painting, origami, sketching, charcoal portraits and sidewalk chalk.
After lunch, awards were announced. In each category, three honorable mention ribbons were given as well as three medals.
Medals were earned by the following Ellsworth students: Jessa Schultz in acrylics; Alexis Borah for watercolor; Will Donley earned two medals in batik for Czech eggs; Micah Galvan for batik with a Czech egg; and Kay Ritchie in textiles and hand-built ceramics.
Ellsworth had six honorable mentions. They were Alyssa Rodriguez for acrylic painting and oil pastel; Alexis Borah for mixed media; Reagan Deines for pen and ink and mixed media; and Brooklyn Newell for hand-built ceramics.
On April 17, several students attended the Fort Hays State University High School Art Show at Gross Memorial Coliseum. Students hung their work then headed to the art department to participate in various activities and demonstrations.
After lunch, they were able to view the results of the judging.
Students who brought home merit awards were Alexis Borah for ceramics and watercolor; Alyssa Rodriguez for graphite, oil pastel and three for acrylic painting; Jessa Schultz for watercolor and four for acrylic painting; and Reagan Deines for graphite, mixed media and ink.
Carson Johnson, Becca Neal and Ava Charowhas all received an award for painting.
Brooklyn Newell, Karlie Christian, Kay Ritchie and Aidrian Smith all earned an award for ceramics.
Korbin Freeman received a merit award for photography.
Patience Haugaard earned an award in mixed media.
For Czech eggs, Will Donley received two awards and Micah Galvan received one.
