Kanopolis park restroom construction to begin soon
KANOPOLIS — In a short meeting April 9, the consensus ‘no news is good news’ was discussed relating to the city’s proposed water tower project.
“Nothing really new other than he said federal government has appropriations figured out,” Mayor Anthony Hopkins said. “He did speak with the contractor. The contractor is still interested in doing it as bid.”
Hopkins said he hopes the financing will be firmed up by the May meeting.
The council also discussed the construction of new bathrooms in the city park.
City Clerk Deb Kralik said construction could begin in the next few weeks on the project.
Hopkins told Kralik to instruct the contractor to purchase white doors, and if the council wants to paint them, that can happen in the future.
In other action, the council:
• Discussed the ceiling at the Community Center.
Maintenance Supervisor Mike Bunch said the price was cheapest at Lowe’s, but sometimes a local store will price match.
Council approved up to $2,500 to replace the ceiling tiles.
• Kralik informed the council she canceled the Quickbooks online subscription. A refund will be forthcoming.
• Kralik said World Pest Control is scheduled to treat buildings April 12. Price to spray the buildings remained the same; the termite cost increased slightly.
• Council approved a 3 percent raise for all employees, fulltime and part-time.
• Gave consent for Bunch to repair a railing.
• Approved up to $1,300 for two loads of AB3 rock to fill and repair damage to city streets.
• Approved a $1,000 donation to Fort Harker Days.
• Discussed an electronic sign Ellsworth County Medical Center wishes to install.
The next meeting of the Kanopolis City Council will be at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, at city hall.
