Movie to be shot in Kanopolis March 14
At Monday’s meeting of the Ellsworth County Commission, Greg Heller of the Fort Harker Guardhouse Museum Complex, Kanopolis, said a film crew will be in Kanopolis March 14 to shoot a movie.
Heller said the movie is called “Under the Painted Sky,” and is set in the Fort Dodge area of 1874.
Heller noted a two-block area near the intersection of Ohio and Wyoming streets will be intermittently closed during the day while the movie is being shot.
In other business:
• Ellsworth County EMS Director Nathan Florian said the county did not get the grant it applied for from the Patterson Family Foundation for a UTV.
However, the county did get a $32,870 grant from the Dane G.
Hansen Foundation for a new monitor on the ambulance.
In a related matter, approval was given to Florian to apply for several grants, which, if successful, would be used to purchase equipment for the new ambulance.
• No action was taken after a 10-minute executive session with Florian and County Emergency Management Director Keith Haberer to discuss response coordination.
• Commissioners met with Saline County Sanitarian Shawn Esterl to discuss two applications for septic system grants. The applications were placed on hold for four months until the state makes a change in the requirement.
Previously, the state came out with a requirement that applicants be at 300 percent of the poverty level, but that requirement was made after the applicants applied.
Esterl noted the state wants to prioritize the underserved community.
• After a telephone conference with Kevin Cowan of Gilmore and Bell, PC to discuss sales bond options, the county agreed with Cowan’s recommendation to delay the start of the county courthouse/ detention center renovation project because the county is still waiting on needed legislation to be approved. House Bill 2712 is currently being considered.
• After a 10-minute executive session with Bret Dunlap of the County Road and Bridge Department to discuss nonelected personnel (hiring an employee), the commissioners said Dunlap will extend an offer to the candidate.
The next meeting of the Ellsworth County Commissioner will be at 9 a.m. March 9 at the county courthouse.
