QUILT OF VALOR

By
ALAN RUSCH/Ellsworth County Independent-Reporter

World War II Army Veteran Elias “Eli” Hernandez, 99, of Kanopolis, center, was presented a Quilt of Valor Dec. 18, during a meeting of the Ellsworth Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6485. Ellsworth VFW member Dale Weinhold, left, and Ellsworth VFW member Jose Rodriguez, right, hold the quilt up. According to Doug Stefek, Post 6485 Commander, the quilt was made by Donna Martinson of Junction City in association with the Central Flint Hills Area Quilt of Valor group in Hutchinson as a tangible reminder America’s gratitude and appreciation for Hernandez’s service to the nation. “All I can say is thank you,” he said. “Thank you for remembering, because it has been a very long time.”
