USD 112 to close Wilson Daycare May 19
CLAFLIN — The Wilson Elementary Daycare will close May 19, following action taken by the USD 112 Central Plains Board of Education during the regular monthly meeting April 13.
Superintendent Bobby Murphy advised the board that at this time, they don’t have anyone interested in taking over the day care.
“I think some of the uncertainty is the amount of kids that’s going to be there after school is let out,” Murphy said. “I know we have a kid or two that belongs to a couple of teachers that are not going to be staying in the district, so I think that’s a little bit of the uncertainty about the exact number of kids we will have moving into the summer or next year.
“At this time, we don’t really have anyone to run it past the last day of operation unless we keep it open on our own, but that leaves a lot of uncertainty for us in what that looks like moving forward, as well.
“We need to communicate with at least that one parent as to when that last day will be so they can work on what they need to do to make accommodations for that.”
“I think right now it makes the most sense that we just go ahead and set the last day of operation,” Board President Tamara Dody said.
After asking for discussion, she said the board would entertain a motion that the last day of operation for Wilson Elementary Daycare will be Tuesday, May 19. The motion passed 6-0.
Superintendent Bobby Murphy advised the board that Thomas Lloyd has expressed interest in filling the empty District 2 seat on the board.
“As far as how that would work, he’d just be filling the term that was not filled in the last election,” Murphy said. “You guys do have the authority to select him to be on the board or not select him to be on the board.”
“I do appreciate and understand, especially now, with some of the discussions that have been had about the direction things are moving, wanting to be sure that they have representation,” Dody said.
Following discussion, it was requested Lloyd be invited to attend the next board meeting.
