Wilson approves handbook change

WILSON — Monday’s meeting of the Wilson City Council was highlighted by a change to the city employee handbook.

Approval was given to a motion that, as of Feb. 1, ended a $400 per month incentive compensation new city employees got if they chose not to take part in the city’s health care insurance coverage.

Those city employees hired before Feb. 1, 2026, will still receive the compensation if they chose not to take part in the city’s health insurance coverage.

In other business:

• Approval was given to a request by the property owners at 2204 Ave. F to grant a variance for that property.

• Payroll in the amount of $10,358.59 was approved, as well as the payment of bills in the amount of $54,710.95.

• During a board of health update, a twoweek extension until noon Feb. 17 was approved for the owner of property at 225 22nd St. At that time, members of the board of health will inspect the property and a report will be given at that evening’s city council meeting.

Mayor Jeff Keith said he granted a two-week extension to the owner of the property at 706 26th St. until noon Feb. 17 because of the winter weather and at the recommendation of the Board of Health. • Council member Cathy Smith said the Wilson Girl Scouts are planning to do a community project at the Wilson City Cemetery. She noted the project includes planting flowers and installing a birdbath by the American Legion monument.

• Approval was given to fund the first aid certification and CPR training for 21 members of the Wilson Fire Department. The cost is $35 per firefighter, for a total of $735.

• Approval was given to the successful completion by Logan Eck of a 90-day probation period with the Wilson Fire Department.

• City Clerk Susan Kriley noted the annual rabies clinic will take place from 1-2:30 p.m.

April 11 at the Wilson Fire Station.

Due to the President’s Day holiday, the next meeting of the Wilson City Council will be at 6 p.m. Feb. 17 at city hall.
