Council offers to buy two buildings

WILSON — After an executive session to discuss the possible acquisition of real property, (the Dan Erdman buildings) the Wilson City Council decided to offer Dan Erdman $15,000 to purchase the building at 2504 Ave. E and the building at 2411 Ave. E. If an agreement is not reached by Aug. 17, the council will approve a resolution to proceed with recommendations made by the city’s board of health.

In other business:

• After a 10 minute executive session to discuss nonelected personnel (wages), the council approved a rate of $17-$25 per hour for the maintenance superintendent position and $14-50-$22 per hour for the assistance city worker position.

• No comments were received during a five minute public hearing on the Kansas Department of Commerce Housing Rehabilitation and Demolition grant. Keagan Bailey of the North Central Regional Planning Commission in Beloit said the total grant program amount is $311,750. It will be used to rehabilitate eight homes and demolish four homes in Wilson. She noted the grant application is due by the end of August.

At the end of the public hearing, the council approved applying for the grant as well as signing the necessary documentation to go along with it.

• Wilson Police Chief Joshua Tipton, who is also the head of the city’s board of health, gave a report on several properties in town. He said the remaining vehicles at 2006 Ave. F were removed Friday by Ellsworth Service Center. Progress is being made on the property at 2115 Ave. C. “From where it started to where it is now I believe

Mayor Mike Peschka said the owner of the property at 2211 Ave. D met with officials from World Pest Control to get an estimate on removing bats from the property.

• The abandoned building ordinance was approved, effective Aug. 1.

• Approval was given to remove Evan Just from the Wilson Fire Department because he moved out of town.

The next meeting of the Wilson City Council will be at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3, at city hall.
