Wilson continues fee discussion

ILSON — For the second

Wmeeting in a row, members of the Wilson City Council Monday discussed taking possible action on a resolution to update Wilson’s service fee schedule.

Mayor Dan Taylor once again pointed out it has been seven years since sewer rates in town have been adjusted. City Superintendent Joe Soukup and council President Jeff Keith both advocated for a raise in the sewer tap fee (with saddle).

Adjustments also need to be made to how the city handles requests made under the Kansas Open Records Act.

Further discussion was tabled until the Nov. 17 council meeting.

In other business:

• Bills in the amount of $15,747.72 were approved, as was payroll in the amount of $10,526.76.

• No action was taken after a 10-minute executive session to discuss nonelected personnel (2026 cost of living increase).

• Approval was given to pay KanEquip, Ellsworth, $415.81 to install a new starter on the city skid steer.

• Approval was given to spend up to $3,000 for preventative/required maintenance on the city’s Gator. Soukup said Carrico Implement, Ellsworth, will do the necessary work, including replacing the drive shaft at a cost of $1,223.25.

• Soukup said he is rebuilding the sand roads around town. He also said the crack sealing of streets will begin soon in several parts of Wilson.

• During a brief update, Taylor said there was nothing pending on either the Board of Health or inoperable vehicles.

• Approval was given to the Kansas Department of Transportation FY 2027 operating expense grant, with changes.

• Approval was given to the purchase of 5,000 utility note cards from Advantage Computer at a cost of $580.

The next meeting of the Wilson City Council will be at 6 p.m. Nov. 17 at city hall.
