Ellsworth baseball looks to build on last year
As the weather warms up, high school athletes are gearing up for the spring sports season. Many players are ready for the season to start, whether it be their first season or their last.
“For my last season, I am looking forward to every game since it puts all of our hard work to the test,” senior Cade Gwinner said.
Freshman Tucker Goss is ready to begin his high school experience.
“For my first high school season, I’m looking forward to hanging out with my friends and being a competitive baseball team,” Goss said.
Players are not the only ones putting on their competitive faces; so are the coaches.
With lower numbers, things can change quickly, so the next guy has to be ready to go.”
There are many goals for the season, including personal and team goals.
“My personal goal is to be on (the) First Team All-League again,” Gwinner said. “A team goal for the season includes making it to state.”
Goss said he also wants to play at state, but has a unique personal goal.
“A personal goal for me is to be a contributor any way I can,” Goss said.
Cole Webber has his sights set on post-season play.
“A personal goal I have is to win our sub-state,” Webber said.
Even McWilliams has a great goal, not just this season, but for every season.
“My goal every season is for each player to be better than they started and to have a fun baseball experience,” he said. Although these athletes are eager to take the field, they are also anticipating other things.
“I’m looking forward to winning games and am excited to have a good time with my teammates,” Webber said.
While Gwinner is the only senior on the team, that doesn’t stop him from having full faith in his team.
“This year, I am excited to see how far our team can go,” Gwinner said. “We have plenty of talent available and amazing coaches, so there is no limit for us.”
The Cats’ first game is a doubleheader at home March 28 where they will face off against the Ellis Railroaders at 4 p.m.
“We strive to be the best team we can possibly be each season. Each player has to put in the work to be the best he can be.”
