Tennis team expects to work hard every day

High school athletes are preparing for the spring sports season as tennis matches are drawing near. Everyone is eager to begin, including coaches and players.

“I am excited to travel as a team and become better friends with the other guys,” Anthony Halbgewachs said. “I am also looking forward to playing at our two home meets to start the season.”

Having practice day-after-day can be exhausting, but with this group of athletes, that doesn’t seem to be the case.

“I’m really looking forward to spending my time with a group of people who all want to be successful in tennis,” Tyler Conley said. “We’ve got a great team here and we all get along well, so that just makes our practices that much more enjoyable. I’m most excited to have a full team this year so that we will be able to play at a more competitive level.”

Head Coach Eric Anderson expressed his excitement for the upcoming season and what he expects the season to look like.

“My expectations are always the same every season — to work hard every day, to do the little things and to be the best we can be.”

Eric Anderson Tennis Head Coach “My expectations are always the same every season — to work hard every day, to do the little things and to be the best we can be,” Anderson said. “I feel that if we can do those things, that we can accomplish our goals of being a competitive team at every meet, to compete for regional titles, to qualify for state and bring home some medals from state.”

These athletes have set individual goals even though practices have only recently begun.

“My personal goal is to hopefully make it to state,” Colton Bettenbrock said.

Halbgewachs, one of four seniors, is passionate about seeing improvement in the underclassmen.

“My personal goal is to win a JV tournament and I want to see our freshmen improve and succeed in their games,” Halbgewachs said.

Conley also wants to make it to state as well as some other personal goals for the season.

“Some of my personal goals are to compete at a high level and make it to state, medal at all of my meets and just have a good time playing the sport I love,” Conley said.

The first JV meet was Tuesday at home and the first varsity meet is today, also at home.
