Three advance to state track in Wichita

BELOIT — The Bearcat track team competed at the regional meet May 16, qualifying three to compete at the state level. They had to place in the top four to advance.

Freshman Molly Ehrlich was the top placer for the Bearcats, competing in the 3,200m run and finishing second with a time of 12:25.27.

“I prepared myself for being mentally ready (for state) by just staying positive leading up to regionals, which helped me a lot to be confident in myself,” Ehrlich said. “When I did qualify, it was the best thing ever, and knowing that I put the work in to be there and run with the girls I ran that day.”

Sophomore Lainey Peschka also qualified for state in the 100m dash, placing fourth. She had a time of 12.87.

The final girls’ placer was sophomore Keeley Pflughoeft. Although she didn’t make it to state, she still did well, earning sixth in the javelin with her throw of 120 feet, 1 inch.

The only boys’ placer was senior Riley Stone.

He finished third in the 100m dash with his time of 11.21 seconds, making him eligible to be a statelevel athlete. Stone has competed previously in the 100m dash and also as a part of a 4x100 team.

“The Bearcats had numerous personal bests or season bests on Thursday,” Head Coach Nick Rodriguez said. “The three state qualifiers will participate in next week’s state track and field meet in Wichita on May 24 and 25.”

Due to holiday press schedules, state results will appear in the June 6 newspaper.
