Brian Rush to run as write-in school board candidate
Brian Rush, 44, has filed as a write-in candidate for an open seat on the Ellsworth-Kanopolis-Geneseo School District board of education.
Long-time board member Peggy Svaty currently fills the District 3, Position 3 seat. She did not file for re-election and no one filed to replace her.
Rush, who was student body president his senior year at Ellsworth High School, said his decision to run for school board was like coming full circle. In addition, his step-father, Marty Sauers, was on the school board for many years and Rush, now a parent himself, grew up watching him being active in USD 327 issues.
“When you have kids in the district, what better way to have an impact than to be on the school board?” Rush said.
This is one of three open seats on the Nov. 2 election ballot. Incumbent David Hand filed for re-election and is unopposed. The third seat, now filled by Liz Donley, did not have anyone file.
Advance voting is available at the Ellsworth County Clerk’s office at the courthouse.
