McGowan competes in Shrine Bowl

EMPORIA — Standout athlete and 2026 Ellsworth Jr./Sr. High School graduate Cooper McGowan competed in the 53rd Annual Kansas Shrine Bowl June 27 at Welch Stadium on the campus of Emporia State University.

Track qualifies 7 for state meet

BELOIT — Qualifying members of the Ellsworth boys’ and girls’ track and field teams competed in the KSHSAA Class 3A Regionals May 21.Facing some inclement weather and stiff competition, the Bearcat girls placed sixth in team competition, qualifying in seven events to compete at the state meet.

Ehrlich, 4x100 set new records at league meet

Fresh off of setting a new school record in the 3,200-meter run, junior Molly Ehrlich set a new school record in the 1,600-meter run at the NCAA League Meet May 14 at Shanelec Field.Ehrlich placed third overall in the event, completing it in 5:29.35 and breaking the old record of 5:31.

Baseball falls to Little River

The Ellsworth baseball team welcomed the Little River Redskins May 1 in a May Day doubleheader. The Bearcats played the Redskins close in both matchups, but just couldn’t get over the hump as they dropped both games.

Track hosts meet, girls place second

The Ellsworth boys’ and girls’ track teams hosted their annual home meet on a warm and windy April 14, with 13 teams competing in each of the teams’ divisions, representing classes from 1-4A.

Girls claim 4 golds, team takes second

RUSSELL — The Ellsworth boys’ and girls’ track teams are looking to key upperclassmen for leadership this season while gaining valuable experience for the underclassmen. Despite only three seniors on the girls’ roster, the team has a good mixture of freshmen through juniors for a balanced attack.
