Grain prices mixed for the week
Prices paid for grain at the Ellsworth Co-op at the end of the business day, Monday, July 29, were:
Wheat, bu. — $4.02, up 5 cents from July 22.
Milo, bu. — $3.37, up 5 cents.
Soybeans, bu. — $7.40, down 2 cents.
Corn, bu. — $3.87, down 5 cents.
The co-op has locations in Ellsworth, Black Wolf, Farhman, Hitschmann, Holyrood and Kanopolis.
Dr. Altman recognized with award
Dr. Matthew Altman, MD, MPhil received the American Academy of Allergy and Immunology faculty development award for 2019.
Matthew is the son of Drs. Leonard Altman and Gaylene Bouska Altman, previously of Wilson and now on the faculty of University of Washington. His grandparents are the late Frank and Christine Bouska, who lived in Wilson
Matthew is a graduate of Stanford University with a degree in advanced mathematics and computational modeling where he received the president’s and mathematics awards. He received his medical degree from Harvard Medical school and a master’s from Cambridge University; Cambridge England. From this background Matthew was able to merge his passion of mathematics and biomedical research.
After medical school, Matthew continued his research projects as a resident at Harvard’s Brigham and Women’s hospital. Ultimately, he moved back to Seattle, where he is a faculty at University of Washington, to specialize in Allergy and Immunology and focus on systems immunology research. Matthew’s research will focus on genome, transcriptome and microbiomes in pediatric asthma, specifically Circuits Between Antiviral Type I Interferon and Th2-Type Inflammation in Pediatric Asthma.
FHSU Interns available
Businesses and organizations in northwest Kansas can now apply for a fall, spring or summer intern from Fort Hays State University through the FHSU/Dane G. Hansen Internship program.
FHSU students may apply for a fall internship beginning Sept. 9.
A grant from the Dane G. Hansen Foundation made 30 paid internships possible for the 2019-20 academic year, including the summer 2020 term.
Aug. 30 is the deadline for employers to apply for a fall intern. Applications for spring and summer interns will be accepted through Oct. 1.
Eligible employers must be located in the Hansen Foundation’s 26-county service area: the block of counties stretching from the Cheyenne-Wallace County area east to include the Republic-Saline County area, including Ellsworth County. Students do not have to be from the northwest Kansas area.
The interns are paid $10.31 per hour.
