Grain prices down for the week

Prices paid for grain at the Ellsworth Co-op at the end of the business day, Monday, Aug. 19, were: Wheat, bu. — $3.55, down 1 cent from Aug. 12. Milo, bu. — $2.85, down 20 cents. Soybeans, bu. — $7.37, down 12 cents. Corn, bu. — $3.35, down 20 cents. The co-op has locations in Ellsworth, Black Wolf, Farhman, Hitschmann, Holyrood and Kanopolis.

Soukup resigns as Wilson city super

The resignation of Ted Soukup, city superintendent for the City of Wilson, was accepted Aug. 13, during a special meeting of the Wilson City Council. The acceptance of the resignation, which takes effect Aug. 23, came after an executive session to discuss nonelected personnel. The council then offered the job to Marty Prester, who was Soukup’s assistant superintendent. Prester will assume the superintendent’s duties Aug. 24. The meeting lasted a total of 22 minutes. Ads will be placed in the Ellsworth County Independent-Reporter for an assistant city superintendent.

Lorraine woman is victim of scam

On Aug. 8, the Ellsworth County Sheriff ’s Office investigated a report of theft by deception at 137 Tulis in Lorraine. The victim was Glenna C. Bain of Lorraine. The crime involved two miscellaneous Home Depot gift cards valued at $500 each.
