Wilson Winners 4-H

The Wilson Winners 4-H Club had its monthly meeting May 19 at the Lion’s Club Park in Wilson. Roll call was answered by your favorite place to visit. There were 14 members, four Cloverbuds and two leaders present. Following the business meeting, Cade Brokes gave a project talk about beef. Abby Dlabal demonstrated how to make a colored art print using crayon transfer. Lane Brokes explained the 4-H Creed. Recreation leader Caleb Dlabal led members in a jumbo egg race and song leader Lauren Brokes led members in singing “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.” Prior to the meeting, members planted flowers downtown and added mulch to flower beds in the park and downtown area. Friendly Neighbors

The Friendly Neighbors FCE met April 30. President Sylvia McNeal called the meeting to order and roll call was answered by listing “What does mindfulness mean to you?” by members Sylvia McNeal, Avis Foster, Cindy Bender, Dorothy Thomas, Diane O’Connor and Ellen Brownback. Two guests, Wadonna Bircher and Mary Herzog also attended. Minutes from the March 19 meeting and the treasurer’s report were approved. Sylvia reported on attending the district meeting where the unit received a Gold Seal. Friendly Neighbors received first place in the district due to the presentation at the Trafficing Program at the library. Other business included discussion on the insurance program available to all FCE members and safety during thunderstorms. The state meeting will be Oct. 7-9 in Fort Scott. In 2020, the international meeting will be in Australia. Kansas has more FCE members than any other state. The next meeting is May 21 at Ellen’s house, with a program on “Managing Life After Retirement.”

Dorrance Homemakers

Dorrance Homemakers FCE met June 4 at Wolke’s in Russell. The meeting was called to order with the Flag Salute and KAFCE Creed. Roll call was answered by Joyce Langhofer with a joke, reported exercising 13 hours and 41 minutes and where she would like to visit which is Niagria Falls. Alison Voos anwered with 40 hours exercise, a joke and Ireland. The treasurer’s report was submitted, seven books were read, 13 bags recycled, Joyce and Allison each had stamps, tabs and coupons. For volunteering, Joyce reported 6 hours 14 minutes and Alison reported 8 hours. The next meeting is July 4 at Woelk’s. Alison will give the lesson on “Healthy Cooking Styles.” Joyce Langhofer, reporter
