Friendly Neighbors The Friendly Neighbors FCE unit met May 21 at the home of Ellen Brownback. President Sylvia McNeal called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance and NAFCE Creed were recited. Roll call was answered by Dorothy Thomas, Ellen Brownback, Cindy Bender, Sylvia McNeal and Diane O’Connor by saying “What is your favorite hobby?” Hobbies mentioned included reading, quilting, jigsaw puzzles and photography. Minutes of the April meeting and the treasurer’s report were approved. Thank you notes were received from the library and Kids of the Kingdom for monetary gifts the unit made. During the Health and Safety Report, Sylvia gave a report on important vitamin supplements including zinc, chromium, Lutein, Zeaxanthin and Emergen-C. She outlined how they help, especially for eye health. The Open Class Fair will be July 29 to Aug. 1. Members will be asked to door-sit Tuesday and Wednesday of that week. A schedule will be made. Ellen presented the program,“Managing Life After Retirement”. As reflected in the roll call, retirement planning involves more than financial considerations. Finding meaningful and satisfying ways to fill time is equally important. Ellen shared a number of quilted wall hanging she made after joining a quilting club when she retired. Homemade pie AlaMode was served. The next meeting is June 18 with a program on “Character Counts! — Trustworthiness.” Diane O’Connor
