Kueser reappointed to CKCC advisory board
Terry Kueser of Ellsworth, a former Ellsworth County commissioner, has been reappointed to a three-year term on the Central Kansas Community Corrections Advisory Board.
The reappointment was made during Monday’s meeting of the Ellsworth County commissioners.
In related business, commissioners approved the Central Kansas Community Corrections 2020 Comprehensive Plan and CKCC applying for a Behavioral Health Grant.
CKCC director Amy Boxberger said the state has cut her budget and she has only $11,000 for operation after salaries are paid.
“That’s not enough,” she said, adding it normally takes around $35,000 to run the program.
She plans to dip into a pot of $60,000 saved from offender fees to help with expenses throughout the year.
Marissa Woodmansee of Central Kansas Community Corrections said she has hired two juvenile advocates to help juvenile offenders stay within the communities where they live instead of being incarcerated. The program stresses parental engagement.
Boxberger said a community resilience group is being started to help adult offenders handle stress and make better decisions. She noted three Oxford Houses have opened in Great Bend to provide a structured living arrangement for these offenders.
In other business:
• Rick Nondorf, superintendent of the county road and bridge department, said his crews are getting caught up on work that was delayed due to the wet weather recently. This includes installing culverts and blading roads. He said the bridge north of Holyrood has been opened.
The next meeting of the Ellsworth County commissioners will be at 9 a.m. Monday, April 22, at the county courthouse.
