County plans delinquent property tax sale

Alan Rusch

Ellsworth County commissioners approved a resolution Monday earmarking funds for a planned delinquent property tax sale later this year.

The resolution authorizes payment of expenses for the tax foreclosure sale to be taken out of the county’s general fund.

County attorney Paul J. Kasper said 50 tracts are involved in the sale. He estimates the sale will take place sometime late this summer or in the early fall.

In other business:

• A $4,990 bid from Cheney Door Company of Hutchinson for automatic openers on the doors at the Ellsworth County Health Department was approved, if that amount includes installation. County health supervisor Brenda Buehler later learned there will be an additional cost to supply electricity to the doors. She will get bids and report back.

Buehler said the $4,990 came from a Dane G. Hansen grant her department recently was awarded.

• Andrew Bair, chief executive officer at Ellsworth County Medical Center, invited commissioners to attend two meetings in May during which a strategic plan for ECMC will be developed. The meetings are at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 2, and at 7 a.m. Friday, May 3, at the hospital.

• Rick Nondorf, county road and bridge superintendent, said he drove on 25th Road recently and saw several places that need rock.

“I drove a whole bunch of [roads] this morning,” Nondorf said.“They’re soft.”

Commissioner Kermit Rush said he recently drove 21st Road and saw four places where rock is needed. He marked those on a county map for Nondorf.

Nondorf said his crews placed 17 loads of rock on the roads at Yankee Run.

“I put rock in a lot of places out there,” he said. “It’s just all sand. We’re working on it.”

Rush said the roads need to be maintained before rock can be applied.

Rush commended Nondorf and his crew for the good job done on Ave. T.

The next meeting of Ellsworth County commissioners will be at 9 a.m. Monday, April 8, at the county courthouse.
