District ends fiscal year
The end of the 2018-19 fiscal year arrived Monday night for board members of the Ellsworth-Kanopolis-Geneseo School District.
Business included mostly cleanup items following discussions at previous meetings.
Included:
• Board members approved a 5-cent per meal increase in lunch prices for the 2019-20 school year.
Prices will go from $2.85 to $2.90 for students in K-4; $3.10 to $3.15 for students in grades 5-12 and from $3.95 to $4 for adults. Milk is an additional 40 cents.
Breakfast prices will remain the same — $1.70 for grades K-4; $1.80 for grades 5-12; and $2.20 for adults.
• After several minutes of discussion, board members decided to continue the election of board officers in July. The alternative was to select officers in January, shortly after a new board is seated. The decision was made necessary by the state’s action of moving school board elections from April to November.
Board president Liz Donley said she supported the way the USD 327 board is organized — everyone has an opportunity to serve after becoming familiar with the job.
“Leadership is important. Consistency is important. We all know that,” superintendent Dale Brungardt said.
Board attorney John Sherman said officials will need to pass a yearly resolution in January stating their intention to elect officers in July.
• Board members approved the one-time use of a district bus to take students at the Ellsworth Child Care and Learning Center on a field trip to Salina; however, they rejected the center’s request for long-term transportation.
