Fifty-five units of blood were donated August 23 during the American Red Cross community blood drive in Ellsworth at the St. Bernard’s Catholic Church.

The drive was in memory of Tom Renard, a dedicated blood donor, who received many units of blood during his fight with cancer.

“We were short two units of our goal of 57 units, but 56 persons presented to give the gift of life. We collected 23 more units of blood than our June blood drive,” said Karin Renard.

Kitchen workers were Len Haverkamp, Tobina Norris, Connie Rodriguez, Melody Magette, and Kris Finke. Escorts were Jodi Chase and Peggy Weinhold. Working at registration and set up were Karin Renard and Lu Adams.

Members of the Willing Workers provided cookies. Roger McCaulley put out yard signs and Mosaic distributed posters to local businesses.

The next Ellsworth Community Blood Drive will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Monday Oct. 21, at the St. Bernard’s Catholic Parish Hall, Ellsworth.

Wilson Blood Drive

Twenty-seven units of blood were collected Aug. 9 at the Wilson Blood Drive in the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. That was two more units over the goal.
