EMS to purchase new furniture
The Ellsworth County EMS Department is getting some new office furniture. Jeremy Brown, EMS director, received approval at Monday’s meeting of the Ellsworth County commissioners to purchase $3,236 in office furniture from Office Products Inc.
The purchase includes a U-shaped desk for the billing office, an L-shaped desk with a hutch for storage for Brown’s office, and two office chairs.
In other business:
• Brown said he was told by the insurance adjuster the water seeping inside the offices at the EMS building is coming from between the bricks on the north side of the building. The adjuster plans to call KCAMP, the county’s insurance carrier, and replace the brick with metal sheeting.
• No action was taken after a 10-minute executive session to discuss non-elected personnel with Teresa Shute of the county noxious weed department, landfill and recycling program.
• Dale Houston, county road and bridge supervisor, presented commissioners with paperwork to sign for the demolition and construction of the bridge on Old 40 Highway. He said construction is scheduled to begin in March.
• Houston said his crews have to move some dirt at the land fill and will stockpile it on the other side of the burn pile.
From the Oct. 7 meeting:
• Commissioner Kermit Rush said Enel Green Power North America, owner of the Smoky Hills Wind Farm in Ellsworth and Lincoln counties, is getting ready to replace the generators on top of its wind towers.
The commissioners plan to meet with Enel officials in about a week to discuss the replacement of the generators.
Rush said he didn’t know if the road use agreement originally signed with Enel needed to be changed.
“We were very satisfied with it originally and they have done what they said they would do,” he said.
• Melinda Merrill, owner of the Midland Railroad Hotel, met briefly with commissioners just to chat.
Merrill said the Midland is installing a spa at the hotel in November and has a masquerade ball coming up.
She also asked about the process of chipping and sealing roads. Merrill pointed out the deep dips in several streets in Wilson.
“There are some in Ellsworth the same way,” Rush said.
The next meeting of the Ellsworth County commissioners will be at 9 a.m. Monday, Oct. 21, at the county courthouse.
