Claflin Fire District 1 recently received a grant from ONEOK Community Investments, which fosters partnerships between the company, its employees and the community by investing in the areas where ONEOK has operations and the company’s employees live and work. ONEOK supports first responder organizations across Kansas, Colorado, Montana and Wyoming with these grants. The Claflin grant of $20,032 will be used to replace aging and worn bunker clothing. Claflin’s bunker equipment is more than 12 years old and without the grant, the fire department only had enough money to budget for one or two sets each year. The grant will be used to replace eight full sets. Claflin Fire District 1 covers the townships of Cheyenne, Logan, Independent and Cleveland and responds to assist other neighboring departments in Barton, Rice and Ellsworth counties. The fire district also provides mutual aid and EMS services to the ONEOK plant located near Bushton.
