Is there a clean, reflective slow moving vehicle sign (SMV) on the rear of the tractor or the towed implement? ___ 7. Are all warning labels readable and in place? ___ 8. Do you lock brake pedals together before traveling on roads and do they operate evenly? ___ 9. Do you use safety hitch pins and chains for towed equipment? ___ 10. Is there a first aid kit and fire extinguisher on the tractor? ___ 11. Do you provide adequate ventilation when operating tractors in buildings? __ 12. Are steps and operator platforms free of mud, debris, or tools that could cause slips or falls? __ 13. Are keys removed from the tractor to prevent children or unauthorized persons from starting them? ___ 14. Do you stay away from ditches, pond banks, steep hills, or other areas where tractors easily roll over? ___ 15. Do you travel with front end loader buckets low to the ground during transport? ___ 16. Have all tractor operators on the farm received training on the equipment and reviewed the operator’s manual? ___ 17. Is mounted equipment always lowered before the operator leaves the tractor? ___ 18. Are towed loads hooked to the drawbar and never higher? ___ 19. Are clearances from overhead power lines checked when moving or towing loads? ___ 20. Is the exhaust system on each tractor in good condition and free of leaks? ___ 21. Do you wear hearing protection? ___ 22. Do tires have good tread, proper inflation pressure and are free of cuts or other damage? ___ 23. Do you back up steep hills and use a low gear going down steep hills? ___ 24. Are hydraulics in good condition and leak free? ___ 25. Do operators avoid wearing torn, loose or ragged clothing? __26. Do lights on the tractor function properly and provide adequate lighting for night operation? __27. Are wheels set at the widest practical setting to increase stability? __28. Do you always set the parking brake or lock the transmission in park when dismounting the tractor?

PTO Equipment

__1. Do all PTO’s have shields and guards in place? __2. Are shields on PTO’s checked periodically to ensure that they rotate freely (check with PTO off )?
