Charley Griffee has the thanks of the Reporter office force for a fine lot of watermelon. Sensible man.
Up to Monday evening Everett and Foster of this city had shipped 22,000 bushels of wheat to a mill at Leavenworth.
J.F. Wilder has just received the largest and most complete stock of furniture and wallpaper ever brought to this city. Call and see his immense stock.
We noticed a large farm wagon loaded full of cabbage on Douglas avenue Monday last. It was raised in this county and the man said he had plenty more.

The Reporter has in the past and will continue in the future to puncture the gas bags who are trying to injure this community. Socialistic leaders, anarchical sentiments, demagogues who play upon passion and prejudice for selfish motives, we shall hit and hit hard.
Uncle Ed Root was in Saturday with a load of nice melons.
Paul Long and Lee Krebs left Monday for Oklahoma, they say.
Mr. and Mrs. Amiz Faris were in the city Tuesday. They brought the baby in to have its picture taken, it’s a daisy fat little girl and pretty, too.
Last Friday Theo. Sternberg received an order from Canada for a Buff cochin rooster. Its very good for Ellsworth county to be able to furnish the Connucks with poultry.

Fred, the son of Rudolph Smischny of Noble township, is ill with scarlet fever.
Dr. Wm. Scott of Sharon Springs has decided to locate in Ellsworth and practice his profession, taking the place of Drs. Downs and Bowles.
Don’t forget Governor Charles E. Hughes will speak tomorrow at 9:50 o’clock from the rear platform of the east bound passenger train.
Mrs. Allan Thrash brought in an ear of corn to our office last Saturday, which was raised on her place, that was 9 inches in length. It looks mighty good for corn raised this summer.
Miss Mary Helen Lillian Brown and Mr. Frank Nicholas Hagen of Little Rock, Ark., were married at the home of the bride’s father, Mr. E.C. Brown, southwest of Ellsworth.

Ellsworth county was given its second thorough soaking in less than a week last Saturday night and early Sunday morning in a downpour that measured 2.50 inches.
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Armbrust of this city are the parents of a son, Edward Raymond, born at the Ellsworth hospital Friday, August 22, 1941.
A hail storm, accompanied by an inch of rain centered over Kanopolis, five miles east of Ellsworth, shortly after 5 o’clock Friday afternoon and though it was of short duration yet it left havoc and at least $20,000 worth of damage in its wake.
The Ellsworth Municipal Band was in Wilson Monday evening playing an Incitation Concert in Wilson City Park. Each summer for the past several years the Ellsworth band has given a concert at Wilson.

Ellsworth County Farmers Co-op Union will hold an open house at its new feed mill on Wednesday, September 7, Manager Pete Dlabal, said this week.
A 61-man Ellsworth High School football squad started drills with the opening of school on Monday of this week. The squad had three weeks to prepare for its opening game at Lincoln, September 16.
Three Australian youths touring the United States visited Mrs. Martha Vauple of 714 E. 2nd Street for a short time this week. One of the youths was a former “pen-pal” of Mrs. Vauple’s son and stopped through on their way across the U.S.
Judith Ann Warta, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank W. Warta, Ellsworth, became the bride of Scott Wiggins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Wiggins, Lyons, Saturday morning, August 20, at the St. Bernard Catholic Church, Ellsworth.

Randy Ranker of Ellsworth recently returned home from Wichita, where he took part in the Chevy Classic Club International miniconvention August 17-20. He finished second overall in the Custom Class with his 1956 Chevy Nomad, winning Best Modified Interior and Best Modified Paint.
Dorothy McMillen, Ellsworth, and Howard C. McMillen, Knoxville, Tenn. were united in marriage August 15, 1981 in the Free Methodist Church, Bedford, Ind. The Rev. Darold Hill officiated. After a short honeymoon they are at home in Ellsworth.
A surprise retirement party was held for Bob and Marge Clausen at the Ellsworth County Club August 10. Clausen, who is employed by Cashco Inc. will retire August 31.
The KMS Bulldogs had their first team meeting and began their workouts Monday, August 24, according to head coach Lyle Harrell, with over 40 players reporting.

When the Ellsworth City Council opened the bids for paving frontage road in the Parkton addition Monday, it got a pleasant surprise — the low bid came in more than $30,000 under the engineer’s estimate. Wilbur Construction, Salina, was the apparent low bidder at $92,752.35.
A South Carolina man Tuesday was forced to make an emergency landing in a field north of Wilson after the engine of the Piper Cherokee he was flying failed at 7,000 feet. Lloyd G. McBride, 64, Rembert, S.C. crash landed in a field a halfmile north and a halfmile east of the junction of I-70 and Kansas Highway 232.
Despite the fact that some utilities have yet to be hooked up, students and teachers have moved into all new rooms at Ellsworth High School and Ellsworth Elementary School. The 14 rooms of the Silverwood Wing at EHS are complete, except for heating work that is underway, but not needed now. The two new classes at EES still need chalkboards, tackboards, hardware and heating, air conditioning and plumbing work.
Lisa Kay Mitchell and Mark Phillip Parsons were united in marriage Saturday, August 2, 1986, at the First Presbyterian Church, Ellsworth, with the Rev. Don Ray officiating.
