Oz dedication set at Wilson
The family of Christian J. Leiker, who was a Kansas grassroots artist, is donating six Wizard of Oz characters to the Post Rock Opportunities Foundation so that more people can see and enjoy Christian’s work. The sculptures will be on permanent display at Kansas Originals Market and Gallery near Wilson.
A special event, The Road to Oz, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19. Wizard of Oz snacks and samples will be provided along with spiced cider and cookies from the market’s Wickedly Good Kitchen. An unveiling and ribbon cutting ceremony for the display will be at 2 p.m.
Family members of Christian J. Leiker plan to attend, including his widow, Helen, who is 92 years old, several of his children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
Following the unveiling, photographs will be taken of children and the young at heart with the sculptures and a 5 x 7 print will be available for pickup later or mailed out. The only charge will be for the postage. For fun, there will be an Oz scavenger hunt with prizes. Live music will be provided.
