Tipton offered Wilson PD job
The Wilson City Council has offered the vacant job of Wilson Police chief to Joshua Tipton of Holcomb. The motion came Monday afternoon during a special meeting at Wilson City Hall. He was offered the job at $36,400 per year for a 43 hour work week.
That offer came after an April 4 special meeting of the council during which Jonathan Lawrence, parttime officer with the Wilson Police Department, was offered the chief ’s job at $36,400 per year for a 43 hour work week. Lawrence turned the offer down, but, according to the council, is willing to stay on as a part-time officer.
A day earlier, at yet another special meeting of the council, it was announced that Lawrence had not accepted the council’s original job offer. Council member Gary Everett said Ellsworth Correctional Facility, where Lawrence currently works, offers a family health insurance package while the City of Wilson does not.
The council then entered into two executive sessions totalling 25 minutes to discuss non-elected personnel. After a brief recess to call a prior candidate with a question about his resume, the council adjourned without taking any action because they did not make contact with the candidate.
