Lots of exciting Halloween events are planned around the area to entertain your cowboys and angels. Trunk or Treats are plentiful. Here is a roundup of the candy-filled events:

Ellsworth:

• Halloween starts early as Ellsworth’s American Legion Post 174 stages a Halloween Costume Party from 9 p.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26. Music by The Justus Band.

• Ellsworth Elementary School will stage a costume parade down Douglas Avenue at 8:15 a.m. Halloween Day, Nov. 31.

• Mosaic will conduct a Trunk or Treat event in its parking lot at 124 W. 3rd St. from 5-7 p.m. Oct. 31. Local businesses, churches, organizations, and individuals are welcome to set up booths and pass out treats. Set up begins at 4 p.m. The Kiwanis club will serve hot dogs. Call Jaennell or Mikey at (785) 472-4081 to reserve a spot. This is the second year for the Kiwanis event and organizers say they expect about 200.

Kanopolis:

The recreation department will have a trick or treat celebration from 5:30-7 p.m. on main street. Hot dogs, chips, and drinks will be served. Also a prize for the best trunk to be awarded.

Holyrood:

Boo Bash and Chili Cook Off are planned at 6 p.m. Oct. 29 on Main street. There will be games and several booths with candy. A free will donation will be taken for food to benefit the American Legion. If you’d like to set up a chili booth, call (785) 252-3239 to register. Those who plan to pass out candy should arrive at 5:30 p.m. to set up.

Wilson:

A Wilson Chamber of Commerce Halloween Festival is planned with a Trunk-n-Treat at 5:30 p.m. at Wilson School. Participants are asked to line up on the south end of the school parking lot.

At 6:30 p.m., a costume parade will be conducted. Participants are asked to meet at the north end of the school track.

Ellsworth Police Chief Emil Halfhill encourages anyone out and about after dark on Halloween night to “use glow sticks to make yourself more visible.” He also reminds everyone about the 11 p.m. curfew for anyone younger than 18 years old.
