USD 327 enrollment continues to be stable
It was all about numbers at the most recent monthly meeting of the Ellsworth-Kanopolis-Geneseo School District board of education at the district office in Ellsworth.
Superintendent Dale Brungardt reviewed the district’s student population numbers, which became official Sept. 20 when they were released to the state.
He said the best words to describe enrollment are “flat” and “solid.”
The district had 637 students this year, compared to 640 at the start of the 2018-19 school year. For this year, Ellsworth Junior/Senior High School has an enrollment of 278 (270 in 2018) students; Ellsworth Elementary counted 261 (260) and Kanopolis Middle School reported 98 (110) students.
Brungardt said he was especially pleased with KMS. He said the number of students is down by 12 when administrators expected a decline of 20.
Also Oct. 7, board members accepted the resignation of Sharon Nelson, effective Oct. 18, as librarian at the high school. The action came following an executive session.
Board members also approved out-of-state travel for FFA students, who plan a trip to Indianapolis, Ind. to attend the organization’s 92nd national convention. They will be gone Oct. 30-Nov. 2.
Brungardt also reported on the construction project at EES. Only a few minor items remain before the project is done.
