Alvin Jay ‘Squeak’ Svoboda (1930-2020)

Alvin Jay ‘Squeak’ Svoboda, 89, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2020 in Hutchinson. He was born March 5, 1930 in Stapleton, Neb. to Alfred and Josephine (Brosius) Svoboda.
Alvin was a longtime resident of Ellsworth where he worked for Kansas Gas Service for 43 years. He married Doris Walker in Ellsworth Dec. 26, 1949. 
Alvin served overseas in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of the Ellsworth American Legion and VFW. He was also a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the Ellsworth Volunteer Fire Department.
Alvin enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing pitch, traveling, family potlucks, fireman activities, and playing with his grandsons.
Alvin is survived by his wife, Doris of the home; daughters, Wanda Nicholson (Michael) of Salina and Sheryl Svoboda of Kansas City, Mo.; grandchildren, Brandon Callahan (Hannah) of Olathe and Shawn Nicholson of Minneapolis; and great-granddaughter, Rylee Nicholson. 
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Donna Jo; grandpa, Joe Svoboda; and uncles, Leonard and Ernie Svoboda.
Visitation is from 1-7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, at Parsons Funeral Home, Ellsworth followed by a vigil and rosary service at 7 p.m. Family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m.
Funeral Mass is at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 27, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Ellsworth with burial following in Ellsworth Memorial Cemetery.
