Richard DeWayne ‘Dick’ Mitchell (1928-2020)

Richard DeWayne ‘Dick’ Mitchell, 91, passed away Thursday, Jan. 16, 2020, at his home in Ellsworth. He was born March 23, 1928 in Fairbury, Neb. to Harold and Alma (Ellington) Mitchell.
Dick was a longtime resident of Ellsworth and telegraph operator for the Union Pacific Railroad. He served his county in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was a member of the Ellsworth American Legion Post 174, Ellsworth Masonic Lodge 146, and Eastern Star. He married Twila Peterman on Nov. 8, 1952 in Ellsworth.
Dick is survived by his wife, Twila of Ellsworth and daughter, Lori Mitchell of Augusta. 
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Allan Louis; brothers, Norman and Harold Eugene; and half-sisters, Avola Ahrens and Roberta Miller.
Visitation is from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, at First Presbyterian Church, Ellsworth.
Funeral Service is at 2 p.m. Jan. 22 at First Presbyterian Church with burial following in Ellsworth Memorial Cemetery. 
Memorial contributions may be made to Ellsworth American Legion Post 174 or the Shriner’s Hospitals for Children, in care of Parsons Funeral Home, Box 45, Ellsworth, Kan. 67439.
