Darcy Lynn Hubka-Vopat (1987-2025)

Darcy Lynn Hubka-Vopat, 37, of Russell, Kan., and former Wilson, Kan., resident, died on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025, at Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington, Kan.
Darcy was born on Sept. 1, 1987, in Salina, Kan., the daughter of Ronald J. and Virginia E. “Ginny” (Lawrence) Hubka. Darcy grew up in Wilson and graduated from Wilson High School with the class of 2006. She met the love of her life and was united in marriage to Dustin A. Vopat on July 24, 2015, in Wilson. From this union Darcy and Dustin were blessed with three children, Bailey, Sydney and Lynley.
She worked for many years as an accounts payable representative with Wilson Communications. She was very involved in her community and worked hard to improve Wilson and surrounding areas, and even won an Ellsworth County Leadership award for her efforts. She was a member of the Wilson City Council Recreation Department, a Wilson Czech Festival Committee member and organizer and helped coach Wilson Youth Sports. She enjoyed playing volleyball and softball, painting, drawing and watching Kansas University and Creighton University basketball games. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with and taking care of her family. She especially loved to help with and watch her children’s activities, in sports and other events.
Darcy’s favorite quote was “Enjoy the gift of an ordinary day.”
Darcy is survived by her husband Dustin, daughter Bailey Vopat, son Sydney Vopat and daughter Lynley Vopat, all of Russell; parents Ronald and Ginny Hubka, Wilson; brothers Jeremy Hubka, Wilson, and Toby Hubka, Akron, Iowa.
Cremation has been selected by the family. A memorial service to celebrate Darcy’s life will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 20, 2025, at St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church, Russell. The family will greet guests the day of the service and meet with guests after the service in the church parish hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Vopat Children’s College Fund and sent in care of the mortuary. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, Russell, is in charge of funeral service arrangements.
