Elwyn (Dusty) Briggs (1949-2023)

Elwyn (Dusty) Briggs, 74, born July 3, 1949, in Eureka, Calif., passed away on Aug. 27, 2023, at Wilson Care and Rehabilitation Center, Wilson, Kan.

He graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1967 and attended Kansas State Teachers College.

He joined the Navy in 1967 as a fire control technician during Vietnam. He served as a gunners mate on the destroyer USS Agerholm, and later retired as a chief career counselor.

After his retirement from the Navy, he went on to retire from the State of Kansas in Great Bend, Kan.

He opened and ran Briggs Firearm Supply in Bushton, Kan.

He is survived by his spouse Janice Briggs; daughter Lori Rook; four grandchildren, Lacey Salas, Miranda Salas, Dakotah Rook and David Rook Jr.; two great-grandchildren, Esiah Salas and Gabryanna Mendez; and sister Celinda Stricklan.

He was preceded in death by his father John Briggs, mother Louise Briggs, brother Johnny Briggs and brother Jerry Briggs.

Services will be Saturday, Sept. 9, at 3 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park Vietnam Memorial, 338 Veterans Pkwy., Wichita Kan.
