Keith Allen Small (1955-2025)

Keith Allen Small, 69, of Lyons, Kan., passed away Sept. 22, 2025, at his home. He was born Oct. 6, 1955, at Smoky Hill Air Base, Salina, Kan., the son of Bobby Keith “Bob” and Rose Arlene (Doubrava) Small.

Keith resided in Lyons since 1980, formerly of Pittsburg, Kan., and Holyrood, Kan. He graduated from Holyrood High School with the Class of 1973. In 1975, Keith received his associate’s degree in machinist technology from Pittsburg State University. Keith was a skilled machinist and worked for TC Energy, formerly El Paso Gas Company, in Alden, Kan., as a pipeline mechanic.

He was a member of the United Church of Christ in Holyrood and the Rice County Sportsman Club. Keith was an avid target shooter, enjoyed riding his Harley motorcycle and loved his two dogs, Toby and Sadie.

On June 3, 2006, Keith was united in marriage with Nancy White in Great Bend, Kan.

Keith is survived by his wife Nancy Small of Great Bend, Kan.; four children, Nathan Small, Norton, Kan.; Natalie Cook (Michael), Jefferson City, Mo.; Nicholas Small (Danelle), Ft. Leavenworth, Kan.; and Aimee Small (Travis Nash), Hutchinson, Kan.; brother Jim Small, Lyons; and seven grandchildren.

A funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2025, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons, with Pastor Nickia Larsen officiating. Burial will follow at Saint Paul’s United Church of Christ Cemetery, Holyrood. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2025, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons, with family present. Memorials may be given to Friends of Animals Rice County in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
