Lila Mae Holmes (1928-2023)

Lila Mae Holmes, 94, died Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at The Shepherd’s Center, Cimarron.

She was born Aug. 17, 1928, at Liberal, daughter of Claude William, Sr. and Ida Almeda (Barrows) Holmes. She was a 1946 graduate of Plains High School, Plains, Kan., and earned her bachelor’s degree from Southwestern College in Winfield in 1950. She was a school teacher and also worked as a computer programmer. She was very creative and artistic with sewing, crocheting and tatting as well as many other hobbies. She always liked to keep her hands busy and was known as being gentle and generous.

She married Kenny Parks at Holyrood, Kan. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include two daughters, Drena Holmes, San Antonio, Texas, and Lorna “Maurine” Howell, Republic, Mo.; two sisters, Alice Sinclair, Cimarron and Lois Packard, Plains, Kan.; 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, a son, Randall Jones, two brothers, Howard Holmes and infant Claude Holmes Jr. and two sisters, Joyce Holmes and Ruth Kittle.

Private family services will be held at a later date.  There will be no public viewing, cremation has taken place.
