On Tuesday, Dec. 6, Lois Lee (Nienke) Holtz of Salina, Kan., a beloved mother and grandmother, left her home on earth to join her family in heaven. She was 76. Lois was born in Ellsworth, Kan., in 1946 to Hulda (Haase) and Ruldolph Nienke. She graduated from Black Wolf High School and later graduated from Brown Mackie College with an accounting degree. Lois worked for many years at Gibson Department Store before going to the Saline County mailroom and tag office for the next 18 years. She retired in 2010.

Lois was an avid gardener, loved feeding the birds and animals and was often attending her grandchildrens’ events. Family was very important to her and she could often be found cooking Sunday night family dinners for everyone. Even if you were not family, you were included. The grandkids’, their friends and her neighborhood children knew her as Grandma Bubbles. She was known for tossing bubbles at the kids while doing dishes with them. She was always playing and was quite the jokester when it came to the grandchildren.

Lois is survived by her children Jeffrey Holtz, Jennifer Zimmerman, Jonathan “Jo” (Wendy) Holtz, Monica (David) Daniel-Palmer and Melissa (Vernon) Melder; grandchildren Kasey (Mykiala) Lien, Jacob Daniel, Coltan Daniel, Mason Daniel, Alexis Holtz, Haylee Holtz, Logan Holtz (Lexi Mendenhall), Samantha (Cody) Melder White and Cody (Jessica) Mayeux; and great-grandchildren Everly Lien, Brek Lien and Nya Mendenhall Holtz.

The Celebration of Life was held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 12, 2022, at the Ryan Mortuary, 137 North Eighth St., Salina, Kan. Burial was in the Kanopolis City Cemetery at 2 p.m. that day. Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, 2022, at the mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Presbyterian Manor Memory Care Unit.
