Marilyn Janice Hines (1944-2023)

Marilyn Janice Hines, 78, died May 25, 2023, at her home in Hutchinson. She was born Aug. 23, 1944, in Lake Charles, La., to William Abraham and Mabel Estell (Bowen) Johnson.
Marilyn graduated from Lorraine High School, Lorraine, and Salt City Business College, Hutchinson. She worked for Blue Cross/Blue Shield of California for 32 years, retiring as Director of Human Resources. Retirement brought her back to Kansas in 2014.

Marilyn loved to travel the world over with friends. She thoroughly enjoyed HHS and HCC sports, especially following great-nieces Macie and Kaitlin. She enjoyed attending activities at the Fox Theater, line dancing and activities at the Delos V. Smith Senior Center. Marilyn cherished her many dear friends in California and Kansas.

Marilyn married Peyton Hines in Reno, NV, in March 1994.

She is survived by sister-in-law Louise Johnson; niece Shirley (Brad) Yoder; brother-in-law Clint Houser; nephews Bob and Gary Houser; numerous great-nieces and nephews; and special friend Chet Martin.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband Peyton Hines; brother Rex; sister Mavis; and nephew Dale Houser.

Family visitation will be from 1-2:30 p.m. Wednesday May 31, 2023, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson. Burial will be at 4 p.m. that day in the Lorraine Baptist Cemetery, Lorraine, Kan. Friends may sign the book from 1-5 p.m. Sunday May 28, from 9 am to 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, and Wednesday prior to the visitation.

To honor Marilyn’s request, please do not send flowers, but make a memorial to the Cancer Council of Reno County in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
