Naoma Jean “Poodie” Peverly (1930-2023)

Naoma Jean “Poodie” Peverley, 92, of Lyons, Kansas, passed away Nov. 6, 2023, at her home. She was born Dec. 20, 1930, in Geneseo, Kan., the daughter of Eddward and Maude (Kerr) Taylor. Poodie had resided in Lyons since 1998, formerly of rural Geneseo. She graduated from Geneseo High School with the Class of 1948.

Poodie was a homemaker and also worked at Palace Drug Store, Geneseo. She was a member of the Geneseo United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Y2K Campers. Poodie volunteered at the Northern Rice County Food Bank. She enjoyed reading, gardening, camping and working on crossword puzzles.

On Dec. 15, 1952, Poodie was united in marriage with William Downing “Big D” Peverley in Geneseo. He preceded her in death on June 17, 2005. She was also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; and two sisters. Poodie is survived by her four children, Rick Peverley and wife Sally, Hamilton, Mont.; Kirk Peverley and wife Shelley, rural Geneseo, Kan.; Sharon Simpson, Ulysses, Kan.; and Guy Peverley and wife Teresa, Wamego, Kan.; five grandchildren, Andy Simpson and wife Lindsey, Wyatt Peverley and wife Catherine, Brandi Peverley and fiancé Dale Hoch, Dustin Frost and wife Lindsey and Nickia Larsen and husband Andy; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 11, 2023, at the Geneseo United Methodist Church with Pastor Steve Holmes officiating. A private family burial will take place at the Geneseo Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, 2023, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons, with family present from 5-7 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Geneseo United Methodist Church or the Northern Rice County Food Bank in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
