Refugio Joe ‘Cucu’ Muro

Refugio Joe ‘Cucu’ Muro, 88, passed away Friday, May 24, 2019 at his home in Kanopolis.

He was born July 4, 1930 in San Luis Portasi, Mexico to Santonino and Angela (Gonzales) Muro.

Cucu, a resident of Kanopolis since 1952, was a longtime employee of Acme Brick where he retired as a burner. He was a member of the St. Ignatius Catholic Church of Kanopolis.

Cucu is survived by his wife, Esther Muro of Kanopolis; daughter, Yolanda Pruitt of Ellsworth; son, Charles Muro of Ellsworth; daughter, Angela Hughes of Derby; daughter, Rachel Muro (Mark Vopat) of Kanopolis; grandchildren, Ralph Burrell, Shawn Burrell (Erica), Tammy Zachary, Dana Jones (Paul Heaslet), Shannon Burrell (Autum Edmond), Jerry Slaight (Stephenie), Brian Slaight, Wendy Hughes-Litzenberger, Chris Hughes, Andrew Hughes, and Trey Hughes; great-grandchildren, Sierra, Josh, Danielle, Tyler, Sarah, Nathaniel, Alicia, James, Mara, Caleb, Holden, Trey, Takota, and Khali; and greatgreat-grandchild, Asher Burrell.

He was preceded in death by his son, Julian Burrell; sons-in-law, Tommy Pruitt and Sidney Hughes; and great- grandson, Trenton Haley.

Visitation will be from 1-7 p.m. Thursday, May 30 at Parsons Funeral Home, Ellsworth, followed by a vigil and rosary service at 7 p.m. Family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m.

The funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 31 at the St. Ignatius Catholic Church, Kanopolis, with burial following in Kanopolis Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Ignatius Catholic Church, in care of the funeral home, Box 45, Ellsworth, Kan. 67439.
