Jerome G. Janssen, 87, of Lorraine went to be with his heavenly Father on Friday, May 24, 2019 at his residence.

He was born in Lorraine, Kan. on Aug. 2, 1931, the son of Herman and Christina (Steenbock) Janssen. He graduated from Lorraine High School in 1949. He farmed in the Lorraine area all his life. He was united in marriage to Marilyn Schacht on April 16, 1955 in Lorraine and blessed with 64 years of marriage. He was a loving, caring husband, father, and grandpa to his family enjoying many farm activities with grandkids. He also attended many of their school and church activities. He enjoyed traveling, jigsaw puzzles and many games (especially dominoes).

Jerome was a devout Christian, loved the Lord and was involved in many church-related activities. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lorraine and served as a deacon since 1957, taught Sunday School for many years, BYF sponsor for several years and sang in the church choir. He was also active and held several offices in the Gideons International.

He served as a board member of the Lorraine Grain, Fuel & Stock Co.

Survivors include his wife Marilyn; son, Stuart Janssen, Lorraine; daughters, Melodie (Merlyn) Spare, St. John, and Melinda (Rod) Christie, Waterville; brother, Arlen Janssen, Bushton; grandchildren, Katrina (Peter) Goehring, Jessica Spare, Benjamin Spare, Timothy Spare, Calvin (Heather) Christie, Rebecca Christie, Rachel Christie; and three greatgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by son, Stanton Janssen; sisters, Melva Splitter, Wanda Olson; brother, Vernon Elroy Janssen.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 29, at the First Baptist Church, Lorraine, with burial following in the Lorraine Baptist Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Lorraine or The Gideons International, in care of Parsons Funeral Home, P.O. Box 45, Ellsworth, Kan. 67439.
