Airport money is welcome
Ellsworth received good news this past week and it came — from all places — the federal government.
The city was one of three Kansas communities to receive supplemental funding at 100 percent for improvements to its airport.
Put another way — the FAA will provide $9.1 million for runway/taxiway rehabilitation and taxiway construction. That will save the city and its residents the 10 percent — or $900,000 — they were expected to provide before the supplemental money was approved.
“I am still anticipating another $10-$12 million in outside resources being spent in Ellsworth over the next 18-36 months on top of the $9.1 million from the FAA. Stay tuned for more updates!” city administrator Scott Moore wrote in an e-mail after the additional airport funding was announced.
The office of Congressman Roger Marshall notified Moore a week ago of the award. Official word didn’t come until several days later.
