CHANGE IN PLANS

I-R plans to keep running account of virus-related changes

By

No medical questions, please. Otherwise, the Ellsworth County Independent-Reporter plans to track coronavirus-related postponements and cancellations on our website, www.indyrepnews.com. We also will include updates from local, state and federal governments.

Or, if you have a non-medical question, give us a call at (785) 472-5085, and we will do our best to find an answer.

After this week’s edition, the I-R staff planned to meet Tuesday afternoon to determine a course of action in case we have to “shelter in place.” Most of us have the ability to work from home — a resource we developed following our 2011 fire — so one way or another Ellsworth County can count on a newspaper.

Meanwhile, here are the most recent virus-related happenings —

• Ellsworth’s Kiwanis Club announced Monday night it plans to postpone its weekly Thursday morning meetings at the Ellsworth Steak House. The organization this past week also cancelled its annual Home and Garden Show planned for this weekend.

• The Kiwanis Club meeting decision came after Ellsworth Steak House owners Rick and Tina Davis said they plan to reduce hours and switch to take out orders only. The restaurant will be closed through today (Thursday) to make arrangements. The restaurant at Wilson’s Midland Railroad Hotel also has started curbside service.

• The Ellsworth County Historical Society has cancelled its Saturday night soup supper at Kanopolis.

• The Ellsworth Volunteer Fire Department has postponed its Saturday pancake feed. However, the raffle will continue as planned with results in the March 26 edition of the Independent-Reporter.

• The Wednesday, March 25, Storm Fury on the Plains at the Ellsworth Junior-Senior High School Performing Arts Center has been cancelled.

Choitz Brothers Equipment, 1219 State St., will not have its annual pulled pork lunch, which had been scheduled for Friday, March 27.

• The Ellsworth County Ministerial Alliance has postponed its March 29 chili supper.

• The community Cantata rehearsals scheduled for Wednesday have been cancelled.

• All Kansas Commission on Veterans’ Affairs are cancelled for the remainder of March and through April. Representatives are available durng this time in their offices as well as via e-mail and telephone to assist veterans and authorized dependents with their claims. Call (785) 259-0364 for an appointment.

The decision comes following a no-travel of state employee order from Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly.

Ellsworth County Economic Development has cancelled its April 8 annual meeting.
