CIVIC ENGAGEMENT
Karen Bonar Editor/Publisher
There’s more than one way to let your voice be heard
Listen up!
A variety of entities are currently seeking public input — your input. Ellsworth’s new city administrator is conducting listening sessions. USD 327, likewise, is hosting multiple listening sessions. USD 112 is beginning discussion about strategic planning. Even the Chamber of Commerce and Ellsworth County Economic Development are seeking member input as a merger is mulled over.
All of these entities are looking forward. As a small, rural Kansas community, we applaud the foresight to look forward and ask questions.
But it can’t stop at the question. The question necessitates answers. Answers provided by you, our readers, and the public.
Yes, we’re also in an election year, but participating at the polls (which we highly encourage you to do) is only one form of interacting and engaging civically. Participating in the listening sessions or strategic planning meetings are another opportunity for residents to provide guidance, ask questions, express concerns and impart priorities.
The City of Ellsworth hosts its final listening session Oct. 26 at 5:30 p.m. in the Ellsworth City Council chamber at Ellsworth City Hall. The Ellsworth-Kanopolis-Geneseo USD 327 school district hosts a listening session at 7 p.m. Nov. 1 at Ellsworth Jr./Sr. High School.
Economic Development and Chamber will co-host a session from 5:30-7 p.m. Nov. 2 at the public library.
If you aren’t able to directly attend a meeting, please feel free to reach out to the organization to communicate and engage.
