Dole embodied ideals we should embrace as Americans

It’s time to work together

This past week, as I am sure you have heard, Kansas lost an icon: Bob Dole. A past Kansas House legislator, Congressional House member, and Congressional Senate leader, Dole is remembered as a bipartisan champion.

I have never seen Kansas on the national news as much as I did this past week, and I was never prouder to see Kansas on the national news.

As we enter the 2022 midterm elections, Kansas and the rest of the country should remember a few ideals that Dole embodied.

First, the best plans are made together. Ideas from both sides of the aisle, added together, make the best policy and legislation, and benefit the American people the most. Second, everyone, even people of the opposite party, are working towards a better America. At the end of the day, we are all Americans. Lastly, hard work goes a long way. I cannot help but be inspired by Mr. Dole’s story of doing the impossible after being injured in World War II.

Even through troubles, you and I share a common identity; we are Kansans, and we are Americans. There is nothing that we cannot achieve if we put our minds to it. I challenge everyone to use compassion instead of hate, listen instead of talk, and remember our great rural Kansas ideals. It is time to work together.
