Dole helped create Post Rock
Dole helped create Post Rock
As we remember and honor Bob Dole, we cannot forget his role in the creation of the Post Rock Rural Water District. The idea for the district came from local farmers who needed a source of potable water. Bob Dole solidly supported the project to help the farmer but he also saw the water district as a way of solving the water problems of his hometown of Russell.
The establishment of the district took place over several years and through two different stages. Without Bob Dole sheparding the two stages through the bureaucracy of the Federal government, the district would never have come into existence. He literally had to strong-arm some entrenched opposition to get the two stages approved. Ironically, when the construction reached Russell, the city decided not to join the water district.
If you are on the Post Rock Water District when you turn on your tap to get water, say a quiet thanks to Bob Dole.
Rest in peace, Bob Dole, you never forgot your roots.
